Parents, just a reminder that Open House is this Wednesday! Come on in to see what your child has been working on, to observe the classroom environment, and to ask any general questions about the way the classroom operates on a daily basis. The children have been working very hard on a project and are so excited to share with you!
We tried something new this morning - Spelling City. It's a spelling program designed to meet the varied levels of skill and ability within the classroom, and it's all web based. I've been fine tuning the spelling curriculum and figuring out what I really want from the students, and I've discovered that vocabulary, as well as correct spelling, is what will help the students move forward in their writing and reading. Spelling City allows you to take tests online, according to your skill level and needs, gives you practicing tools, quizzes your vocabulary, and provides me with the information on how each student is progressing. Right now I have four different spelling lists tailored to four groups of students! We used iPads to take the pretest today, and we'll take the test on the iPads on Thursday. Our only problem right now is that we don't have enough working headphones, so if you have a decent set of headphones that you'd be willing to donate, we'd love to have them! I'll have a parent letter ready for Wednesday evening so you can become a bit more familiar with the program.
