"But teacher, I did that assignment! I know I did!"
As teachers we hear this nearly every day. Most of our students are great about completing their homework. They work very hard to get it done, often with much prompting from the adults in their lives. So when students hear, "I didn't get this assignment from you," it's no wonder they get frustrated! They finished that worksheet!!! But something was missing...
As the picture above demonstrates, the biggest reason I'm missing papers is because the student does not put his/her name on it. That photo shows all of the papers handed in without a name on it for the last two weeks. Students won't get credit for completing an unnamed worksheet!
At the beginning of this quarter we were doing much better as a class about having all of our work, but as we draw nearer to the end of the quarter, more and more papers are not making it to me. I check at the door every morning to make sure students hand in their papers. Those who are missing papers get a note in their planner. The amount of notes I had to write last week was the highest it's been thus far. Please make sure you are checking your child's planner every evening to see what they have been asked to complete for the next day.
Finally, if students bring home a paper that says "correct" or "finish" on it, and it has not had a star drawn over it, it means I handed the paper back to be corrected or finished and I need it back before the child receives a grade.
Thanks again for partnering with me in your child's education.
